Job Title: Manufacturing Engineer

Salary: £35k - £45k

Job Type: Full Time / Permanent / Onsite

The Role

Producing high quality 2D engineering drawings and 3D models based upon agreed design philosophies and capable of being used to support, hold and manufacture components.

Proposing cost effective solutions to the manufacture of components together with ways of minimising production costs without compromising quality requirements.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Understanding customers' requirements by studying drawings and discussing requirements with the customers' technical staff.

  • Taking into account the specific requirements of the customer relating to heat treatment, surface finish and dimensional tolerances

  • Understanding the interfaces, mating, tolerances and fits to other process equipment so that final dimensions can be communicated before and after heat treatment.

  • Working with the manufacturing departments to ensure that they are capable of meeting the tolerances and accuracies shown on the drawings

  • Producing drawings to a consistent standard using recognised notation with clear notes and explosions of complex details

  • Marking up drawings so that an in ternal engineer sub-contract manufacturer is capable of producing a finished component to accurate dimensions, tolerances and surface finish

  • Checking that parts being manufacture or measured do not interfere with fixtures, jigs or holding devices during the machining / grinding process

  • Work with the purchasing department and use stock or standard materials which have acceptable lead times wherever possible

  • Understanding work holding principles and designing new tooling and fixtures when necessary.

  • Reviewing designs made by customers and issuing full instructions to notify the shop-floor of these changes

  • Issuing, storing and archiving designs, calculations and drawings efficiently so that retrieval is always achieved

The Candidate

  • An in depth understanding of design for manufacture and manufacturing processes.

  • Capable of working alone, liaising efficiently with internal and external parties.

  • Qualified to HNC / HND / Degree standard in Mechanical Engineering or having relevant experience.

  • Proficient in using Autocad and/or Creo and Microsoft Office.

  • Experience in the automotive, power transmission, gear, and calibration industries would be advantageous but not necessary.
