Job Title: Design Engineer
Location: Nottingham
Salary: up to £50k
Job Type: Full Time / Permanent (Mon - Fri 8:30am - 5pm)
The Role
An exciting opportunity has become available as a Mechanical Design Engineer based in Nottingham.
Duties and responsibilities:
As part of the mechanical design team, you will lead the design of new machines and subassemblies for Laser & Plasma cutting machines and associates sub-systems.
Producing General Arrangements (GA's) and assembly drawings from 3D Models
Producing accurate Detailed Drawings and Bills of Materials (BoMs) for internal and sub-contract manufacture and assembly of all relevant components, including all requisite details such as materials, machining/fabrication tolerances, finishes and welds
Drawing revision and configuration control (fit/form/function)
Working with tolerances, limits and fits with respect to detailed engineering drawings
Using Design for Assembly and Design for Manufacture technique to optimise costs
Setting up parts within ERP/MRP systems including ideal buy quantities and minimum stock levels.
Handling multiple design projects at the same time.
Working to agreed customer deadlines & other project time constraints
Attending site meetings with customers and suppliers as and when required.
Interact with the fitting team for questions and ensuring that their suggestions are heard, taken onboard and implemented
Providing technical help and information to Production and Service Departments.
The Candidate
Strong experience in detailed 3D CAD Modelling of complex mechanical machine assemblies (Creo preferred)
General Arrangements (GA's) and assembly drawings from 3D Models
A good understanding of the manufacturing process (fabrication, sheet metal, machining) and how detailed designs affect it
Generate accurate detailed drawings and Bills of Materials for internal and sub-contract manufacture and assembly of all relevant components, including all requisite details such as materials, machining/fabrication tolerances, finishes and welds
Good understating of the process drawing revision and configuration control (Fit/Form/Function)
Working with tolerances, limits and fits with respect to detailed engineering drawings
A good understanding of Design for Assembly and Design for Manufacture
Strong level of commercial awareness with a focus on cost effective solutions
